Language Institute Courses
The educational programs and courses offered through The Language Institute are designed to be responsive to the academic and professional needs of both traditional and non-traditional students as well as the greater community. A wide range of credit and non-credit bearing courses will be offered through the Language Institute in convenient and accessible formats and locations. Beginning with programs in Spanish, French, and German, the Language Institute will expand offerings to include languages of interest to our students and to members of the community. The Language Institute will serve as a leader in bringing opportunities to study less commonly taught languages to our area and to preserving languages that are a part of our regional heritage.
In addition to traditional academic course offerings, the Language Institute will provide opportunities for individuals to achieve fluency of expression in a foreign language in a variety of social and professional situations. Emphasis will be based on the acquisition of conversational skills and communicative competence. Examples of course offerings will include:
- Traditional academic courses in the fundamentals of foreign language, literature, and culture.
- Intensive immersion programs in language study designed for students who wish to achieve conversational fluency in a compressed period of time.
- Language certificate programs for students and working professionals.
- Professional development courses designed for individuals interested in acquiring basic linguistic and cultural competency in a foreign language to support their careers.
- Language instruction for personal enrichment and travel.
